Memorial meetings
The first memorial meeting for Munin Barkotoki was held exactly a year after Munin Barkotoki's death on 6th November 1994. Noted literary stalwarts Dr. Birendra Kumar Bhattacharjee, Professor Hiren Gohain, Professor Ajit Sharma, Professor Heramba Borpujari, Shri Bijoy Chandra Bhagabati spoke at the very well-attended meeting at Dighalipukhuripar. The book titled Bibhinna Janar Dristit Munin Barkotoki edited by Upendra Barkataki was also released at that meeting.
Memorial Events in honour of Jayanta Mahapatra: Distinguished Indian poet Jayanta Mahapatra passed away on 27th August 2023. Although he had no formal association with the Trust, except for coming once to Guwahati in 1999 at the invitation of the Trust to give away the awards for 1997 and 1998, Jayanta Mahapatra had somehow taken on the role of a guardian and mentor of the Trust.
A. A day-long memorial meeting titled 'Remembering Jayanta Mahapatra' was held in association with the English Department of Cotton University on 13th October 2023 at which many poets from within the northeast took part. Photos and more details of the event can be found here.
B. Another memorial event was held to mark Jayanta Mahapatra's first death anniversary on the 27th August 2024 at the ITA Machkhowa Seminar Hall at which a book of poems dedicated to Jayanta Mahapatra titled 'Scent of Rain' edited by noted poet Ashwani Kumar was released in the presence of many distinguished poets and writers from across the country. A biographical film titled 'A tale to begin with: Time out with Jayanta Mahapatra' directed and produced by Bisheshwar Das was also screened on the occasion.
